Race Relations Day is a time to reflect on our journey towards being a culturally diverse and inclusive nation.
Turangawaewae
This is a Maori concept - tūranga (standing place), waewae (feet), so translated it means 'a place to stand.
Tūrangawaewae are places where we feel especially empowered and connected. They are our foundation, our place in the world, our home
Some questions to talk about with your class - maybe post your comments for others to read:-- Think about where your turangawaewae is.
- Draw something that you identify with this place.
- What is the importance of having a place to belong.
- Does NZ create that feeling for everyone? Why/Why not?
- How can we do better?
